To celebrate online, we have relaunched McCutchenfamily.info for the Social Networking era. Back in 1999, the incredible power of Web 2.0 tools, such as Facebook, Twitter and Picasa was simply unavailable to us.
Now the web has "caught up" with our requirements, we are taking full advantage of the tools available... as you can see from our illustrated publishing model (right).
The model follows a four step process; (a) capture, (b) storage, (c) syndication, and (d) publication. Each of the steps is fully abstracted from the other.
Capture
We capture our photographs and videos using a mixture of devices; the primary ones being the Apple iPhone 3GS and the Canon Digital Rebel SLR Camera. Status updates and blogging entries are primary written on our home PC, laptops or iPhones.
Storage
Photographs are stored in Picasa Web Albums (uploaded from the desktop Picasa application). Videos are stored in a YouTube channel. Most status updates are made via Twitter and blog entries via a Joomla! WordPress Component. Formspring is used for questions.
Syndication
We use a mixture of syndication tools, including RSS feeds and APIs (including Facebook applications like Picasa Updater and RSS Graffiti). These pass stored content from the storage source to the publication platforms.
Publishing
Our two main publishing sites are Viney.com and Facebook. Since the advent of Social Media, all of us have become avid enthusiasts of Facebook. But by syndicating our content (as we do) we avoid having to repeat status updates and picture & video uploads on both sites.
